I came across some seeds of Sarracenia flava var. ornata « horyna » x ‘Super Ornata’ on the CPUK forum. After a quick search to learn about the then-unknown-to-me « horyna » clone, I found a very informative webpage that features a mouthwatering description of its qualities, supported with photos, and it sealed the deal for me. I am both excited to sow Sarracenia seeds for the first time, and to see what this cross would look like. With the superbly veined ‘Super Ornata’ variant as a parent, it should make very interesting plants.

  • Origin: horticultural cross by Michael Schach ; seeds sowed in May 2021
  • Environment: outdoors in the original pot where the seeds were sowed ; temperate climate with distinct seasonal variations that induce the growth/dormancy cycle
  • Temperature: from 0°C to 15°C in the coldest months ; from 15°C to 35°C in the warmest months
  • Light: full sun as much as the weather allows it
  • Soil: sowed in peat moss
  • Watering: daily rainwater, either naturally or from my own watering, during the growing season
